Rockstar may bundle GTA 6's exclusive shops into the PC version at launch, based on past patterns with GTA 5.
Rockstar Games has confirmed the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 will cost $80. While the game is not launching on PC alongside consoles, the studio has not yet confirmed a specific PC release date. However, based on historical patterns from GTA 5, there's a strong suggestion that waiting for the PC version could save players up to $20 by including exclusive shops and content that are currently locked behind the more expensive ultimate edition.
What Happened with GTA 5’s PC Launch?
When GTA 5 launched on PC in April 2015, it was not the original 2013 version. Instead, Rockstar released an enhanced edition that included many of the extras from the 2013 console launch, such as custom character ancestry, stunt plane trials, and bonus cars and weapons. While some items were initially exclusive to the special and collector’s editions, they were eventually made available to PC players through in-game purchases or included in the enhanced version.
This pattern suggests that Rockstar may follow a similar strategy with GTA 6, potentially bundling many of the ultimate edition extras into the PC version at launch. This could include access to shops like Electric Fang and One-eyed Willie’s, which are currently exclusive to the more expensive version.
Confirmed vs. Speculative
The $80 price for the standard edition is confirmed, and Rockstar has stated that five shops are “only open for business with the ultimate edition.” However, whether these shops will be included in the PC version at launch remains speculative. The source article from Rock Paper Shotgun draws a parallel to GTA 5, but Rockstar has not officially confirmed this strategy for GTA 6.
Why This Matters for GTA Fans and PC Players
For PC players, this is a significant consideration. If Rockstar follows the same model as GTA 5, waiting for the PC version could mean avoiding the $20 price jump for access to exclusive shops and content. This is especially relevant for players who prefer to wait for the PC release, which is not launching alongside consoles.
