Rockstar is offering a free PS5 upgrade for all existing Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5) owners to shift players off the PS4 ahead of the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) release in November 2026. The move, announced alongside a major GTA Online update, aims to ensure players are on the latest hardware to experience improved performance and new features.
The free upgrade becomes available on 18 July 2026 and includes both physical and digital copies of GTA 5. Rockstar has emphasized that the PS5 version will offer “vast technical improvements, easy migration of your Story Mode and Online progress, and new features including Hao’s Special Works high-performance vehicles and upgrades, Career Progress rewards, and much more.”
What the Free PS5 Upgrade Includes
Rockstar’s PS5 upgrade for GTA 5 is more than just a hardware shift — it’s a full experience overhaul. The PS5 version will support enhanced visuals, faster load times, and better performance, especially for GTA Online players.
