Phantom Blade Zero is launching in late October 2026, just three weeks before GTA 6, with its developers saying they don’t care about the competition.
Phantom Blade Zero is set to launch on 29 October 2026, just three weeks before the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on 19 November 2026. Despite the close timing, developers at S-Game have stated they are not considering the competition at all, focusing instead on delivering a polished and high-quality product.
In a recent PC Gamer interview, game director Qiwei Liang confirmed that the decision to delay Phantom Blade Zero from its original early September 2026 release date to October was not influenced by the release window of GTA 6. Instead, the delay was made to allow for additional improvements and optimizations to the game.
What Happened
Phantom Blade Zero was originally scheduled for an early September 2026 release but was pushed back to 29 October 2026. This makes it the most major PS5 title set to launch just weeks before GTA 6. While many developers are avoiding October and November 2026 to avoid competing with Rockstar’s next open-world hit, S-Game has taken the opposite approach.
Confirmed vs. Speculative
The delay of Phantom Blade Zero has been officially confirmed by the developers, who cited the need for additional polish and bug fixes. However, the impact of this timing on sales remains speculative. Some fans have expressed concerns that the game could suffer from reduced attention due to the massive hype surrounding GTA 6, while others believe the two titles will appeal to different audiences.
Why It Matters for Gamers
For gamers, the close release dates mean that Phantom Blade Zero will be one of the last major PS5 titles before the arrival of what many consider the biggest entertainment launch in history. This could lead to a shift in consumer behavior, with some players opting to buy Phantom Blade Zero first to avoid the potential oversaturation of the second-hand market with used GTA 6 copies.
